Happy News: I'm on the Mend!

I would like to thank everyone who expressed concern about my long list of health troubles of late.  How very thoughtful to send me (and a very worried Jeannie) your well-wishes!  Here's a quick update on my long list of achey, virusy, and cystic party-poopers:

First, the kennel cough has been resolved - thank goodness!  I just love to rub noses with other doggies, so being Typhoid Mary is no fun for me at all. :(  Even though it hasn't been a full year since my last vaccine, Jeannie made sure that I got a Bordetella shot last week.  So,  I hope kennel cough will stay at bay for some time!  Of course, anything is bound to happen with me.

The inter-digital cyst is slowly improving, though it doesn't seem to be bothering me one bit.   I have at least 1 1/2 weeks left on special peanut buttery medication for this.   Do your pills come topped with delicious peanut butter, too?  YUM-MEEE!

Finally, the most recent issue:  my mysterious limp.  Dr. Metzler wasn't sure if the pain was in my foot, my elbow, or both.  All Jeannie knows is that it happened sometime during the night.  I went to bed perfectly fine, and woke up behaving as if I'd been struck my a car!

Here's a video taken that morning when Ben and Jeannie took me in to the vet.  What do you think happened?  Jeannie is betting that it was some ill-fated late night cat showdown.  But, I don't remember a thing!

As you know, Jeannie and Ben decided to board me at the Alamo Heights Pet Clinic that night.  They were very worried that I might hurt myself on the many stairs I have to climb to get inside our apartment.

Happy ending:  On Saturday morning, Dr. Metzler called Jeannie to say that I had improved a great deal.  So, I got to come home! Yay!  Even though I'm feeling much better  now, Dr. Metzler wants Jeannie to watch me very closely until Friday.  There's a slight chance that I will need another special shot to prevent my foot and elbow aches.  Can't wait to return to Camp Bow Wow and my beloved dog park -- I'll be sure to post once I've been released from house arrest. :)

  1. Oh Mayli - I'm so sorry this is so late!! Things have been so hectic lately, especially since Muesli's arrival, that I'm just so behind with my blog friends. I did see your post about your Kennel COugh sickies and I've been meaning to leave a note asking how you were but just never had the time!

Anyway, am really pleased to hear that you're on the mend! As you know, I play really rough and I somtimes get this thing called "tendonitis" in my front paw which makes me limp a bit. It's always the same paw and i have a bit of an "old war wound" now - but I'm usually fine after a few day's rest/gentle exercise and some anti-inflammatories.

Hope you are feeling back to normal soon and able to enjoy the dog park again!

  2. OMD, you poor girl, Mayli! You sure have been put through the ringer when it comes to your health, haven't you?

I'm so glad to hear you're on the mend and I hope you get to feeling as good as new in no time!

  4. I don't know what part of the country you live in, but one of the symptoms of Lyme disease is sudden onset lameness.

  5. Now, take easy there :) We don't want you to hurt your foot again. Hopefully the ache won't come back.

    Sunny days!

  6. You poor thing! I'm not sure what is causing your limp too but perhaps it could be panosteitis. I'm not sure how old you are but big, young dogs generally get panosteitis every once in a while especially when they're still growing.

My son, River had pano for a while. One minute he would start limping & then in a few days time, it's gone. And the pain shifts around. One minute it is the front leg, the next it is the back. Next time, it is a different leg. It's not life threatening though. The dog will grow out of it after a while. OR maybe you just sprained it. OR you've been sleeping on cold floors. Whatever it is, I hope it will get better soon!

  7. Oh, Mayli, we're so sorry 'we' [it's entirely our mama's fault, of course] have not been getting around to all our blog friends as often as we would like. We sure hope you're feeling better. Being a large sized doggie, you might want to think about sleeping on a big bed on the floor and not on the sofa at night. Sofas are not really designed for large sized doggies to do deep sleeping, because the doggie can move around in her sleep and fall off the sofa and sprain or tear a ligament or tendon, or injure a joint, in the fall. You can still sleep on the sofa during the day and to watch TV with your peeps and stuff. Just a suggestion.

Anyway, we hope you recover soon and that your mom gets her thesis done.

Jed & Abby, I'm speechless! I think the couch might just be to blame. I do a lot of doggy dreaming - I run and bark in my sleep. My barks turn into throat squeaks because my mouth stays closed and my body shakes all over as my legs move around. Jeannie has seen me wake up lazily from sleeping on the couch, then try to get up in the most awkward ways. I just sort of flop my body off the couch and, when she's watching, she's often nervous that I might miss a step and fall. I think this is the most likely explanation. Then only way to make sure I sleep in one certain place at night is to crate me (I like to migrate from bed to bed throughout the night). Jeannie and Ben (and my poor elbow!) really appreciate your insight. Thank you so much for stopping by! :)

  10. Hi Y'all,

So glad y'all are doing better.

Haven't been able to comment for awhile. Just got notice that Blogger no longer supports Explorer no matter how current.

So I'll try from Chrome even though I don't like it.

    Y'all come by now,

  12. Oh goodness Mayli - what a surprise to stumble upon this site and see your picture. You look exactly like my dearly loved Sophie, who died quite suddenly a little over a year ago. Naturally, I think you are absolutely stunning. Fingers crossed that your ailments are resolved.

  13. Hi I just recently adopted a Labradane, from some druggies who'd rather charge a rehoming fee in order to get drug money than take care of her. Her name is Dixie and she is six months old!! However I do believe that she will look exactly like Mayli!! Our poor dixie is now starting to thicken up but She is such a joy that we have added to our family!! Boy is she smart though!

  14. Alicia, my Labradane was the smartest, most easily trained dog I ever had. She had the brains of a lab and the docile nature of the dane. Easily knew 80 commands, perhaps more, and could transfer learned skills to figure out similar situations. So glad Dixie now has you...sounds like all involved has found happiness.
